Injury Claims

The following information relates to player injury procures for injuries occurring to GAA and LGFA players at supervised training sessions or officially sanctioned fixtures.

ALL INJURIES MUST be reported to the manager when the injury occurs and if the injury occurs during a match, it must also be reported to the match referee. The manager must complete the Incident/Accident Report Form with details of the incident.

Players must be fully paid up members of Buncrana GAA Club to be covered by the relevant fund. They are NOT Insurance policies, but benefit funds set up by the GAA and LGFA to assist with the payment of some expenses associated with injuries sustained while playing Gaelic Games.  The playing of Gaelic Games involves the risk of injury and it is the responsibility of each individual player (or parent)  to familiarise themselves with the terms and benefits of each fund.

The most important thing to be aware of is the timeline for reporting claims.

GAA injury claims, both adult and juvenile, must be reported within 60 days of the injury occurring.
LGFA injury claims, both adult and juvenile, must be reported within 56 days of the injury occurring.
The day of the injury is considered as day 1.
Any claims made after these specific timelines WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED by the relevant fund.

If the player has private health insurance, all receipts must be submitted to their own insurer first and then a statement from their private health insurance needs to be furnished before any injury expenses are paid out by any of the Injury Funds.
The injury must still be notified to the relevant benefit fund within the allowed timescale.

As with all roles within Buncrana GAA Club, the administration of both injury schemes is a volunteer position, so claimants should allow 5 working days for emails to be responded to. Do not wait until day 50 to enquire about setting up any claim!
